Panic swept through Offa, a major town in Kwara State, on Thursday night after multiple explosions were reported in different parts of the community.
The blasts caused widespread panic among residents, damaged several properties and disrupted normal activities in the area.
The incident occurred just hours after the United States announced airstrikes targeting ISIS positions in north-west Nigeria, raising concerns and speculation among locals, although no direct link has been officially established.
According to eyewitness accounts, the explosions happened at two separate locations around midnight. The first blast affected buildings around the Eid praying ground area, while the second occurred close to Solid Worth Hotel, approximately a five-minute walk from the initial site.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause and nature of the explosions remain unclear.
Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Offa Local Government, Abiola Azeez Babatunde, said authorities were aware of reports surrounding the incident.
“The Offa Local Government has taken note of reports circulating regarding a suspected ordnance-related incident that occurred in the precinct of Offa Yidi Praying Ground on December 25, 2025,” Babatunde said in a statement.
He added that security agencies had cordoned off the affected areas to enable a thorough investigation into the incident.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as security operatives continue to assess the situation and determine the source of the explosions.
