The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to commence voting at the scheduled 8:30 a.m. start time for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections on Saturday, as sensitive materials were yet to be deployed to polling units in parts of Abuja.

As of a few minutes to 9:00 a.m., election materials had not left the Registration Area Centre (RAC) at LEA Primary School, Lugbe, raising concerns about possible delays across affected polling units.

Security personnel, including officers of the Nigeria Police and other agencies, were also seen organising logistics at the Lugbe RAC Centre.

In a video obtained from the scene, a supervisor at the centre said officials were working to resolve logistical issues and ensure the safe distribution of sensitive materials to designated polling units.

With materials yet to be dispatched, observers fear that voting may not begin until much later in the morning in several parts of Lugbe, contrary to INEC’s earlier assurance of an 8:30 a.m. kick-off.

INEC has yet to issue an official statement explaining the delay.
