Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu in the Kano suburb of Kano State have been thrown into shock following the killing of a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son by unidentified assailants.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Saturday evening, with the victims discovered by the woman’s husband when he returned home from work around 8pm. According to reports, he met the house locked and, upon gaining entry, found his wife and child dead inside the building.
Community sources said the attackers forced their way into the residence while the victims were alone. Details surrounding the motive and circumstances of the attack remain unclear.
Confirming the incident, a community leader, Ahmad Sani, expressed deep concern over what he described as long-standing security challenges in the area. He lamented that despite the construction of a police outpost by residents, no officers have been deployed to the community.
Sani appealed to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to urgently intervene and strengthen security in the neighbourhood to prevent further loss of lives.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the command could not provide immediate details, explaining that investigations into the incident were still ongoing.
The killing has heightened anxiety among residents, with many calling for increased police presence and swift justice for the victims.
