Commuters were left stranded for hours on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday as a major accident caused severe gridlock in both directions.

Traffic heading toward Mowe came to a near standstill from Alausa Expressway to the Fatgbems/OPIC roundabout, while vehicles traveling into Lagos were trapped from Long Bridge up to the same junction. The jam was traced to a collision near the New Garage area, where two vehicles caught fire and were completely destroyed. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the blaze left burnt wreckage that further slowed the flow of traffic.

Motorists are being advised to consider alternative routes until the affected area is cleared and normal movement resumes.
