A convoy belonging to former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige came under a violent attack on Wednesday along Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area. Officials confirmed that Ngige was not traveling with the convoy at the time.

The assailants, reportedly dressed in police and military uniforms, opened fire on the pilot vehicle, injuring a police officer and seizing his firearm and uniform. The pilot car sustained multiple bullet holes during the incident.

Tragically, a woman who was recording the attack on her phone was shot dead on the spot. A shop owner who ran to the scene to investigate was also shot but is currently stable and expected to recover after surgery to remove the bullets. Fortunately, none of the bullets affected his spine.

The leader of the escort team, who sustained injuries, has already undergone surgery and is expected to recover fully. No police officers were killed in the attack.

Speaking on the incident, Ngige’s former media aide, Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, said the former governor has taken steps to ensure that all victims receive appropriate medical care. He also extended condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life.

The Anambra State Police are yet to release an official statement regarding the attack, as investigations continue.
