A traditional marriage ceremony in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, turned tragic on Tuesday night after armed men stormed the venue, killing at least three persons and injuring several others.
The incident occurred in Akunza, a Migili-speaking residential area of Ashige in Lafia Local Government Area, while wedding celebrations were ongoing. Residents said the sudden attack caused panic, forcing guests and community members to flee for safety.
A youth leader in the area, who confirmed the incident, said women and children were among those injured. The victims were reportedly taken to a nearby health facility for medical treatment.
As of the time of filing this report, the motive behind the attack remains unclear, and security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The development has heightened fear among residents, who called for increased security presence in the area.
