Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has issued a public apology to fellow actress Mercy Johnson Okojie, expressing regret over statements and actions that led to a widely publicised controversy between both women.
The apology follows Okorie’s recent legal troubles after she was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Centre in Abuja over allegations of cyberbullying involving Mercy Johnson. She was taken into custody at her Lagos residence on January 27, 2026.
Two days later, on January 29, an Abuja court ordered her remand at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings. However, her detention was short-lived, as a Federal High Court in Abuja granted her bail on January 30.
Justice Emeka Nwite, while ruling on her bail application, admitted Okorie to bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with one surety in the same amount.
In a video message shared on social media after her release, Okorie addressed Mercy Johnson and her family directly, describing her actions as regrettable and extending an olive branch.
She acknowledged her imperfections and expressed remorse for any hurtful words or posts linked to Johnson, stating that she no longer wished for conflict. Okorie also dismissed negative labels previously attached to Johnson, stressing that her intention was to restore peace.
The actress further appealed to shared motherhood as a reason for reconciliation, noting that their children could cross paths in the future and that continued hostility would serve no positive purpose.
Reaffirming her stance against bullying, Okorie described the apology as a fresh start and pledged to distance herself from gossip or negative narratives involving her colleague.
The development appears to signal an attempt to de-escalate tensions following days of intense public scrutiny and legal proceedings.
