Ambassador-designate Reno Omokri has revealed that he apologised to President Bola Tinubu for comments he made against him during the 2023 presidential campaign.

Omokri, a former presidential aide, was among critics who questioned Tinubu’s academic credentials during the electioneering period, including allegations concerning his reported graduation from Chicago State University.

Speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday, February 11, Omokri said he withdrew the allegations after the Supreme Court affirmed Tinubu’s election victory. He added that he subsequently visited Chicago State University and confirmed that the President attended the institution.

According to him, he later sought a private meeting with Tinubu in October 2024, during which he apologised for his earlier remarks.

Omokri’s comments come months after he publicly shifted his stance and began supporting the Tinubu administration — a move that drew mixed reactions from Nigerians. He was recently confirmed as an ambassador-designate and is awaiting deployment.

During the interview, Omokri was reminded of his previous statement that he would never work for a Tinubu-led government. Responding, he maintained that his position had not changed.

“My DNA has not changed. I am not eating my words. I never said I cannot work for Nigeria. As an ambassador, I am working for Nigeria. I am going to be an ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
