Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North West Local Government Area of Oyo State have rejected the extension of acting chairman Olusola Tokunbo Adekanbi’s tenure, insisting that elected officials take their rightful positions.
During an emergency meeting on Thursday, hundreds of party members from the eleven wards of the local government called for Adekanbi and his team to step aside to allow the elected Chairman, Jelili Asukuna, and other duly elected executives to assume office.
Party chieftain Adekunle Abass Akande, who moved the motion, emphasized that the move was necessary to address ongoing challenges and restore proper governance within the local APC chapter. “The acting executives are not the authentic leaders recognized by the national party. We want the legitimate chairman and executives to occupy their positions and ensure the party functions smoothly,” Akande said.
Remi Ajanaku, a former leader of the local legislative arm, added that the action was aimed at restoring order and legality within the party. “Our decision today ensures that the authentic chairman takes over and corrects any irregularities in the administration,” he stated.
The meeting marked a decisive step by local party members to reassert democratic processes and strengthen organizational discipline ahead of upcoming political activities.
