An Indiana woman has been arrested in Washington, D.C., after authorities accused her of planning a violent attack against former President Donald Trump. Nathalie Rose Jones, 50, from Lafayette, Indiana, was taken into custody on August 16, 2025, following allegations that she intended to both kidnap and assassinate Trump after traveling to the nation’s capital.
Court filings state that Jones made a series of graphic threats on Facebook and Instagram. In one disturbing post, she wrote that she was prepared to “sacrificially kill” the former president, describing in detail how she would do it. She also referenced Liz Cheney and spoke of an “arrest and removal ceremony” targeted at Trump.
The U.S. Secret Service opened an investigation after linking Jones to the threatening posts. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, which released details on August 18, Jones admitted during an interview on August 15 that she was responsible for the posts. She allegedly told agents she would make an attempt on Trump’s life “if given the chance,” saying she was motivated by anger over lives lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although she initially admitted her intentions, Jones later recanted, claiming she no longer planned to harm Trump. Despite this, authorities moved forward with the arrest, citing the seriousness of the threats and the danger they posed. Jones is now facing federal charges as prosecutors continue to review the case.
