The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has shifted its orientation programme in Kwara State from Yikpata in Edu Local Government Area to Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, amid growing security concerns.

The development follows rising bandit attacks in parts of Kwara North, particularly Edu and Patigi, where communities have come under siege in recent months. The insecurity raised fears over the safety of prospective corps members who were expected to begin their three-week orientation exercise at Yikpata.

NYSC State Coordinator, Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, confirmed the relocation on Thursday, noting that the move was approved by the Kwara State Government to prioritize the welfare of corps members. He explained that the decision was necessary after fresh threats from criminal elements made Yikpata unsafe.

To ensure maximum protection, soldiers and other security agencies will be deployed to the new venue throughout the orientation programme. “We are fully prepared to host the orientation exercise, and the welfare of all participants will be safeguarded,” Onifade assured.

Prospective corps members are expected to report to the Ilorin camp between September 24 and October 14, 2025. Ahead of the exercise, a delegation from NYSC headquarters is scheduled to inspect the facilities at the Polytechnic to ensure readiness.

The relocation underscores the impact of insecurity on national institutions and highlights the government’s efforts to adapt in order to protect young Nigerians serving the nation.
