The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called on its members to urgently register with the Dangote Refinery as the facility gears up to roll out nationwide fuel distribution on Monday, September 15, 2025.

In a statement released over the weekend, IPMAN President, Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi Shettima, and National Secretary, Hon. James Terlumun Tor, confirmed that marketers who have renewed their membership under the association’s amended 2009 constitution are already cleared to begin transactions with the refinery.

The directive follows Dangote Refinery’s announcement last Thursday that it will officially commence petroleum distribution across the country, promising lower pump prices to consumers.

IPMAN stressed that members who have completed their registration with Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited should immediately begin payments in preparation for direct product loading and supply. The association further urged those who have not yet registered to complete the process quickly, warning that operations will kick off without delay.

“Starting Monday, September 15, Dangote Refinery will begin supplying products directly to buyers’ depots and retail outlets nationwide,” the statement read.

While many marketers are positioning themselves to benefit from the refinery’s direct-to-market strategy, not everyone in the industry is welcoming the development. Groups such as the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) have openly criticized the initiative, describing it as a “Greek gift” that may hold hidden consequences for the downstream sector.

For now, however, IPMAN maintains that the refinery’s move represents a major opportunity for independent marketers to secure fuel supply directly and at lower costs, potentially reshaping Nigeria’s petroleum distribution landscape.
