Chief Superintendent of Corrections Jane Osuji has been appointed as the new Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), marking the first time a woman has held the position. The appointment, approved by the Controller General of NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche, is effective immediately. She succeeds Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar, who retired on November 19, 2025.
An indigene of Owerri North Local Government Area in Imo State, CSC Osuji holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Advertising from Lagos State University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. She joined the former Nigerian Prisons Service in 2009 as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons II and has since completed all required courses for her rank, in addition to specialized training including the Internal Security and Low-Intensity Conflict Operations Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji.
Over her career, Osuji has held key positions in the Service, including Assistant Public Relations Officer in Lagos State Command, Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, and Assistant National Public Relations Officer at the Service Headquarters, serving under four different Controllers General. She also served as Press Secretary to three Ministers of Interior between 2015 and 2023, playing a critical role in public communication within the ministry. Prior to her appointment, she was a senior member of the Public Relations Unit at NCoS Headquarters in Abuja.
Her elevation is being hailed as a historic milestone for the Service, reflecting both her professional accomplishments and the growing inclusion of women in leadership roles within Nigeria’s security agencies. CSC Jane Osuji is married and has children.
