The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reviving the education sector by placing a strong emphasis on producing and empowering qualified teachers. Commissioner for Education, Alhaji (Dr) Ali Haruna Makoda, described teachers as the foundation upon which meaningful educational transformation rests.

Speaking during a Stakeholders’ Sensitisation Forum on the National Education Quality Assurance Policy, held at Kano Capital School, Dr. Makoda stated that the initiative reflects the administration’s broader strategy to raise educational standards through enhanced accountability and teacher development.

He explained that the forum was convened to raise awareness among education stakeholders on the critical role of quality assurance in delivering sound education, especially across primary and secondary institutions.

Highlighting the efforts of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the commissioner noted that the administration has launched several education-focused initiatives, including increased funding and strategic policy interventions aimed at overhauling the system.

According to him, the government’s approach is driven by the belief that well-trained educators are indispensable to achieving any sustainable improvement in learning outcomes. He maintained that the administration’s education policy is built on strengthening both instructional quality and school performance monitoring.

Makoda revealed that under the governor’s leadership, the education sector received the largest budget allocations in two consecutive years — 29.75% in 2024 and 31.5% in 2025 — signifying the administration’s firm prioritisation of education in the state’s development agenda.

He also stressed that several programmes aimed at modernising classroom teaching methods and boosting teacher competence are currently in the pipeline.

The commissioner acknowledged the contributions of the Federal Education Quality Assurance Service in driving the state’s recent initiatives and urged participants to embrace the discussions and adopt new strategies from the meeting.

In a statement released by Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, education was reaffirmed as the bedrock of sustainable progress in any society.

Also present at the event was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammed, who announced that participants were drawn from parastatals under the ministry and other major education stakeholders.

Muhammed praised Governor Yusuf for his unwavering efforts to reposition education, describing the forum as a key step in that direction.

Presentations at the event included a lecture on the National Education Quality Assurance Policy delivered by Alhaji Bello Rabeh, Director of the Federal Education Quality Assurance Service. Additional sessions were led by Alhaji Saidu Mohammed and Abdu Danladi Mohammed, focusing on stakeholder roles and state-level capacity building for quality assurance, respectively.

Attendees at the event expressed satisfaction with the insights gained, noting that the forum had enhanced their understanding of quality benchmarks and practical implementation strategies within the education system.
