The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment centres, including gala houses and Disc Jockey (DJ) operations, ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.

Announced by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abdullahi Sulaiman, the directive takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will remain in force throughout the holy month.

According to Sulaiman, the measure aims to create a calm and morally conducive environment for Muslim residents to observe Ramadan without distractions. “The action is intended to create a peaceful environment for residents to observe the Ramadan fast in accordance with religious injunctions,” he said.

Entertainment activities under the board’s supervision will remain suspended, while a reopening date, particularly for Eid celebrations, will be announced later. Enforcement teams will monitor compliance, and defiance will attract sanctions.

Board director Usman Dankwano clarified that the closure applies only to venues classified as entertainment outlets under the board’s jurisdiction. Event centres used for weddings, conferences, or political gatherings are exempt. “Places meant purely for entertainment, like gala houses and similar joints, are affected,” he said. “Event centres are not under our jurisdiction, and people misunderstood the directive.”
