Nollywood legend and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is preparing to take over power from President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Okonkwo, who appeared on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme on Monday, was emphatic that the party is ready to contest seriously at the national level. He dismissed suggestions that the ADC should be judged by its poor performance in the August 16 by-elections, where it failed to win a single seat out of 16 constituencies, while the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 12 victories across nine states.
The actor-turned-politician argued that those elections were not a fair reflection of the party’s strength, noting that they took place before the ADC’s leadership restructuring under David Mark. “The true test of our movement will come in 2027. That is when Nigerians will see the difference we bring,” he said.
Sounding optimistic, Okonkwo declared, “We are going to form the next government in Nigeria. Tinubu will return to Bourdillon when ADC takes over.”
On the party’s growing influence across the country, Okonkwo explained that the ADC now has structures in all 36 states. In Rivers State, he pointed to former governor Rotimi Amaechi as a key figure in strengthening the party’s base.
With the 2027 elections still over a year away, Okonkwo’s remarks signal ADC’s determination to position itself as a formidable alternative to the APC and PDP, hoping to leverage Nigeria’s demand for change.
