The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), widely known as KAI, has dismantled a clandestine oil bunkering hub in Oshodi, arresting 27 individuals allegedly involved in circulating counterfeit naira notes. The raid underscores the state’s commitment to tackling environmental hazards and criminal activities linked to illicit fuel operations.

According to Corps Marshal Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd.), intelligence indicated that the unlicensed depot was being used to store and adulterate petroleum products, while also facilitating late-night transactions in fake currency targeting unsuspecting residents and vendors. LAGESC operatives discovered improvised storage facilities, including drums and jerry cans filled with adulterated diesel.

Cole emphasized the severe risks posed by such illegal operations, warning of potential fire outbreaks, soil contamination, and threats to nearby homes and businesses. The agency promptly dismantled the structures and secured the premises, taking all 27 suspects into custody.

The Corps Marshal reaffirmed LAGESC’s commitment to environmental enforcement in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda, highlighting that routine surveillance and strict regulation are essential to ensuring a safe and livable city. He also urged Lagos residents to prioritize the use of pedestrian bridges to reduce preventable road fatalities caused by speeding vehicles.
