Manchester United have reignited interest in Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres as Arsenal’s prolonged negotiations leave the door open for a potential hijack of the deal.

Arsenal have been locked in talks with Sporting for weeks, aiming to secure the services of the Swedish international, who is believed to be Mikel Arteta’s top attacking target this summer. However, despite advanced negotiations, the North London club has yet to finalise the deal.

This delay has prompted Manchester United to enter the frame, with Portuguese outlet SIC reporting that the Red Devils have submitted a formal offer close to £70 million. The move has added late drama to what had appeared to be a one-horse race.

While Gyokeres has made it clear he favours a switch to Arsenal, Sporting are reportedly open to accepting the most financially favourable bid. The striker’s desire to join Arsenal has been so strong that he has refused to play for the Portuguese champions again.

The 27-year-old was spotted vacationing in Majorca with his agent last week, further fuelling speculation that he is pushing hard for a Premier League move. Sources suggest Gyokeres is eager to see the deal wrapped up before Arsenal’s pre-season ends.

Despite United’s intervention, Arsenal are said to be confident that they remain in pole position. Club officials reportedly view the situation as under control, with personal terms agreed and negotiations approaching the final stages.

Gyokeres enjoyed a standout season in the Primeira Liga and has become one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe. Both English giants are expected to make final pushes in the coming days, as Sporting prepare to cash in on their star forward.
