A disturbing incident occurred today at a military checkpoint in Agbowa, along the Ikorodu Expressway in Lagos State, when a man suspected to be mentally unstable reportedly shot a soldier dead after seizing his rifle.
According to security sources, the attacker snatched an AK-47 from the soldier before opening fire. The shooting took place near Adeogun Bridge, prompting panic among commuters and local residents.
Witnesses say other soldiers at the scene quickly subdued the assailant — but not before the fatal shot was fired. The identity of the deceased soldier has not yet been released.
Efforts to reach Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi for comment were unsuccessful.
Security analysts say the incident raises serious concerns about the safety of military personnel at public checkpoints and underscores growing issues related to mental health and operational protocols within security forces.
Authorities are expected to release an official statement after a preliminary investigation.
