The wedding of Maria Sol Messi, sister of football legend Lionel Messi, has been postponed after she was rushed to hospital following a serious car accident in the United States.
According to reports from Argentina, the 32-year-old sustained multiple injuries after her vehicle reportedly lost control and crashed into a wall in Miami. She was said to have suffered spinal fractures and burns and was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
Argentinian television journalist Ángel de Brito confirmed that although Maria Sol is now out of danger, the injuries have forced the postponement of her planned wedding, which was scheduled to hold in Rosario, Argentina, on January 3.
“Messi’s sister is okay and out of danger, but the wedding has had to be suspended,” de Brito said during an appearance on the US television programme LAM, adding that her recovery would require an extended rehabilitation period.
Further details provided by her mother, Celia Cuccittini, revealed that Maria Sol sustained two fractured vertebrae, as well as injuries to her heel and wrist. She reportedly fainted while driving, leading to the crash.
The Messi family has since confirmed that while the injuries are serious, they are not life-threatening. Maria Sol has returned to Rosario, where she has begun rehabilitation under medical supervision.
Her wedding to Julian “Tuli” Arellano, a member of Inter Miami’s under-19 coaching staff, has been postponed indefinitely.
Maria Sol Messi, a fashion designer and entrepreneur, is known for maintaining a low public profile. She previously worked as a brand manager for The Messi Store, the clothing brand founded by her brother.
