Commercial minibus drivers, popularly known as Korokpe operators, staged protests in parts of Lagos on Wednesday following restrictions imposed on their operations by the Lagos State Government.

The drivers said the directive has significantly disrupted their activities, leaving many unable to work and meet daily financial commitments. Some protesters carried placards and called for immediate intervention, insisting that the policy threatens their means of survival.

According to the operators, the restriction has also created transportation gaps in several areas, forcing commuters to contend with limited mobility options and increased fares.

Passengers in affected routes reported longer waiting times and overcrowding as fewer vehicles were available to ply the roads.

The protesting drivers are demanding urgent dialogue with the state authorities, urging the government to review the policy or introduce an alternative framework that would allow them to continue operating without jeopardising their livelihoods.

As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Government had yet to issue an official response to the protest.
