The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is preparing to challenge the life sentence handed down to him by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the ruling, which imposed life imprisonment on five counts. The court also issued a 20-year sentence on one count and an additional five-year term on another, both without the option of a fine.

Reacting shortly after the judgment, Kanu’s former lawyer and legal adviser, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed that the defence team has resolved to escalate the matter.

Ejimakor told journalists that the legal team would immediately begin the process of appealing the decision.

“We are heading to the Court of Appeal,” he said.
