The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested 12 suspected illegal immigrants in Ilorin following a security operation based on intelligence provided by residents.

The command’s spokesperson, ASC 1 Ayoola Michael Shola, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

According to the statement, the suspects, believed to be nationals of Mali, were apprehended on Sunday, February 22, at about 10:00 p.m. in the Akerebiata area of Ilorin after a tip-off from members of the public.

Authorities said the individuals were occupying a two-bedroom apartment reportedly rented through a local agent under circumstances considered suspicious.

Items recovered during the operation included nine mobile phones, two international passports, identification cards, a wristwatch, keys, and cash, among other belongings.

The State Commandant, Bodinga, stated that an in-depth investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ presence in the state and to establish whether any criminal activities or intentions were involved.

He added that upon completion of investigations, the suspects would be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further action in accordance with existing immigration laws.

The command noted that the arrests were carried out amid heightened security concerns in the state, reiterating its commitment to preventing criminal elements from using Kwara as a base for unlawful activities.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious movements, and cooperate with security agencies to enhance public safety across communities.
