Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a major political shift in the state.
In a letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area, Mutfwang informed the party of his immediate withdrawal from membership. The letter was acknowledged by the ward leadership the following day.
In the resignation letter, the governor expressed gratitude to the party for providing a platform to participate in the democratic process. He also acknowledged the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during his tenure in the PDP.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect,” the letter stated. “I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process. Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform.”
Reports indicate that Mutfwang is expected to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, recently confirmed at an event in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that the Plateau governor will be moving to the APC.
The move marks a significant realignment in Plateau State politics and is expected to have implications for party dynamics ahead of future elections.
