The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video showing him driving dangerously during a live broadcast that ended in a road crash.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and triggered widespread public concern over road safety.

According to the police, the influencer’s actions constituted a serious violation of traffic laws and posed significant risks to both himself and other road users. The command said the matter required immediate intervention to prevent potential loss of life.

In the statement, the police said Peller was seen operating a vehicle in a reckless manner while live streaming, a situation that culminated in a crash and sparked outrage across social media platforms.

The command disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation, adding that the outcome would determine the next legal steps.

“The suspect will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction upon the conclusion of investigations,” the statement noted.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, warned social media influencers and content creators against using online platforms to promote unsafe or unlawful conduct.

He stressed that fame or online following would not shield anyone from the consequences of violating the law, adding that the police would apply the full weight of the law to any individual found endangering public safety.

The incident has renewed public debate about the growing trend of risky stunts by content creators seeking online attention, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.

Authorities have repeatedly identified speeding and distracted driving as major contributors to road traffic crashes in Lagos, reiterating the need for responsible road use to protect lives and property.
