A police officer attached to the Special Protection Unit in Abuja has been killed, and his wife abducted, in a deadly attack carried out by unidentified gunmen in Kurmin Kare, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The officer, identified as Inspector Donfa Chirtip, was reportedly ambushed alongside his wife, Victoria Chirtip, while returning from their farm on Friday. His body was later found in a nearby farmland with a deep laceration to the neck, suggesting a violent encounter.
The incident was made public by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed details via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday. Makama stated that Chirtip and his wife had left home around 7:00 a.m. on a motorcycle to tend to their farmland and were likely attacked on their way back later in the evening.
Joint security patrol teams responded to the scene and recovered the officer’s remains. He was taken to Doka General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death. His body has since been deposited in the hospital morgue.
As of press time, the whereabouts of Mrs. Victoria Chirtip remain unknown. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the assailants and an operation to secure her release.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, were unsuccessful. Calls placed to his phone went unanswered, and a text message sent by our correspondent had yet to receive a response.
The attack has once again raised concerns over security in rural areas of Southern Kaduna, where similar incidents involving armed groups have been recorded in recent months.
