The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck conveying materials suspected to be explosive devices during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation in Saki, Oyo State.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, January 25, 2026, describing the operation as a significant security success.

According to the police, the truck was intercepted following credible intelligence, prompting the immediate deployment of specialised personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit to secure the suspected items.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of an operational success recorded by the Command following an intelligence-led operation,” Olayinka said. “Operatives intercepted a truck conveying materials suspected to be explosive devices during a stop-and-search operation in Saki.”

He said the truck and the items were promptly taken into police custody for safekeeping and forensic examination.

Following a briefing on the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact nature of the materials and their intended use.

The driver of the truck has been arrested and is currently in custody, with police confirming that he is cooperating fully with investigators as inquiries continue.

Olayinka added that detailed forensic analysis of the recovered items is ongoing, alongside a thorough investigation aimed at uncovering all circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police command reassured residents that there is no cause for panic, stressing that proactive and intelligence-driven policing remains a priority.

“The Command remains fully committed to the protection of lives and property,” the statement said, urging members of the public to remain calm as investigations progress.

Police authorities said further updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
