Prominent Enugu politician and former senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Princess Adaku Ogbu Aguocha, widely known as Ada Ogbu, has formally resigned from the party after 14 years of active membership.

Her resignation was contained in a letter dated December 30, 2025, addressed to the APC Caretaker Ward Chairman of Nara Ward I in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The development has triggered fresh political speculation in the South-East, coming amid a wave of high-profile defections and realignments linked to the growing influence of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his movement into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In the letter, Ada Ogbu described her decision as a carefully considered one, taken after consultations with family, friends and political associates. She said her resignation was informed by “evolving realities” and a reassessment of the most effective way to continue serving her people.

A founding-era member of the APC in Enugu State, Ada Ogbu has been one of the party’s most recognisable figures in the state, particularly during periods when the APC struggled for electoral relevance in the South-East. She rose through the ranks as a grassroots mobiliser and party organiser, and was among the earliest Enugu indigenes to align with the party.

She later emerged as the APC’s senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District, a contest that further elevated her profile within the party and the state’s political landscape.

In her resignation letter, Ada Ogbu expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunities and political exposure she gained over the years, noting that the experience shaped her understanding of leadership, governance and public service. She maintained a cordial tone, stressing that her exit should not be viewed as hostility toward party leaders or members she worked with.

Her departure coincides with expectations surrounding Peter Obi’s planned public pick-up of his ADC membership card in Enugu State, a move widely interpreted as part of efforts to consolidate an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While Ada Ogbu did not disclose her next political destination, analysts say the timing of her resignation places her among political figures being closely watched as potential entrants into the emerging ADC-led opposition bloc.

As of press time, she has yet to announce any new party affiliation. However, her exit from the APC adds to the growing sense of political recalibration in Enugu State and the wider South-East as Nigeria’s opposition landscape continues to evolve.
