Controversial Nigerian street-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been released from prison after spending one week in custody over allegations of assault and theft.

The singer regained his freedom on Monday, January 19, 2026, after fulfilling the bail conditions granted by the court. Shortly after his release, Portable appeared in a video circulating widely on social media, where he maintained his innocence.

“They lied against me. I’m innocent,” the singer said in the clip.

Portable was remanded in custody last week following accusations levelled against him by his baby mama, Ashabi Simple, and her siblings. The case stems from an incident on New Year’s Eve, when a video surfaced online showing a heated confrontation between the singer and Ashabi. In the footage, Ashabi was seen holding onto Portable’s clothes while repeatedly saying, “Pami baby” (loosely translated as “You will kill me, baby”).

Following the altercation, Ashabi and her siblings accused the singer of assault and the theft of their vehicle, leading to his arrest. Portable was subsequently arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, where he faced a nine-count charge, including theft, assault, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest.

The presiding judge ordered his remand in prison and adjourned the case, fixing January 19, 2026, for a fresh bail hearing. With the bail conditions now met, the singer has been released pending further proceedings in the case.

The development has continued to generate widespread reactions on social media, with fans and critics divided over the controversy surrounding the outspoken musician.
