The Katsina State Police Command has arrested the principal of Government Secondary School, Shargalle, in Dutsi Local Government Area, over alleged theft of school property.
The suspect, identified as Bashir Musa, 58, was arrested following investigations into a reported break-in at the school on January 19, 2026.
According to police sources, unknown persons had allegedly broken into the school premises at about 6:00 a.m. and carted away inverter batteries, solar lighting components and laboratory equipment. The case was subsequently transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation.
Confirming the development in a statement on Monday, January 26, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said investigations led detectives to the principal’s residence in Shadambu Low Cost, Daura.
During a search of the premises, police reportedly recovered four solar panels, five computer monitors, three CPU units, one solar battery, one printer and two hair clippers, all identified as property of the school.
“The Katsina State Police Command has succeeded in arresting one Bashir Musa, male, aged 58, a school principal, in connection with a case of vandalism, breaking and theft at a school laboratory,” the statement read.
Aliyu added that a handsaw suspected to have been used in gaining access to the school was recovered at the scene of the crime.
The principal was taken into custody for questioning, during which he allegedly confessed to the offence. Police said investigations are ongoing to recover other missing items, assuring that further updates would be communicated as the case progresses.
