Businesswoman Sophia Momodu has addressed public claims suggesting that she restricts her daughter, Imade, from celebrating or spending time with her father, Nigerian music star Davido, and his family.
The controversy followed a family wedding hosted by the Adelekes in the United States over the weekend. While Davido’s younger daughter, Hailey, was present at the event, Imade was absent, prompting criticism on social media, with some accusing Sophia of keeping her daughter away due to personal disagreements with the singer.
In a statement released on Monday, Sophia said she was surprised by the online backlash targeting both her and her daughter. She explained that she has been Imade’s primary caregiver for the past five years, managing all her expenses, except for school fees, which have been generously covered by her paternal grandparents for the past three years.
Sophia emphasized that she has not received child support from Davido but assured that Imade “knows no lack,” as her needs are fully provided for. She also highlighted that she has always encouraged a positive relationship between Imade and her father, never denying him access to their daughter. According to Sophia, any interactions with Davido are carefully structured to prioritize Imade’s safety and well-being.
Through her statement, Sophia sought to clarify her position and reaffirm her commitment to her daughter’s welfare, countering claims that she limits Imade’s connection with her father.
