In a powerful display of team spirit and national pride, six prominent players from Nigeria’s Super Eagles have collectively donated ₦24 million to the Super Falcons in recognition of their triumphant victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The generous contribution came from William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, and Joe Aribo—top names in Nigerian football who were inspired by the Falcons’ resilient performance on the continental stage.

Nigeria’s women’s team pulled off one of the most remarkable turnarounds in WAFCON history, coming from two goals down to defeat host nation Morocco in a dramatic final showdown on Saturday night. The win marks their tenth WAFCON title, reaffirming the Falcons’ dominance in African women’s football.

The donation by the Super Eagles was announced following the Falcons’ return to Nigeria on Monday, where they were welcomed home with admiration and praise.

“This is more than just a reward—it’s a salute to resilience, passion, and the pride of the nation,” one of the players reportedly said.

The Falcons’ triumph has not gone unnoticed at the highest levels. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, also acknowledged the team’s achievement with national commendations and additional financial rewards.

Head coach Justine Madugu expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, noting that gestures like this inspire the team to aim higher and continue breaking barriers.

The camaraderie between the men’s and women’s national teams has sparked renewed excitement among fans and stakeholders, setting a positive tone ahead of upcoming international fixtures for both sides.
