A suspected cult member has been arrested by operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command after officers discovered a human skull and vandalised electrical equipment at his residence in the Oku Abak area of Abak Local Government.

The suspect, 40-year-old Pius Pius, was apprehended on Sunday evening at No. 80 School Road, following credible intelligence received by law enforcement. The operation, carried out around 6:55 PM, uncovered materials believed to be linked to acts of infrastructure sabotage in the region.

In an official statement released Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of several items, including a human skull, a transformer step-down insulator, a circuit breaker, an electricity meter, and fuses.

“The suspect confessed to being a member of the Iceland Confraternity, a group allegedly responsible for repeated vandalism of public electrical infrastructure in Abak and surrounding communities,” DSP John disclosed.

Authorities say the arrest is part of a broader crackdown on criminal elements targeting critical installations in the state. The Iceland Confraternity, to which the suspect allegedly belongs, has been previously linked to violent crimes and destruction of public assets.

The police spokesperson also noted that investigations into the case are ongoing and that further developments will be shared with the public as new information emerges.

“We are pursuing all leads, and more updates will be provided as the inquiry progresses,” DSP John added.
