Armed militants on Friday launched an attack on St. Mary’s Catholic School in the Papiri community of Agwara Local Government Area, kidnapping an unspecified number of students and staff members.

Details of the incident remain unclear, as school authorities were still verifying the number of victims at the time of reporting. A community source, who confirmed the attack, said the Catholic Church would issue an official statement later in the day.

Multiple attempts to reach the Niger State Police Command were unsuccessful. The command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, did not respond to calls.

The abduction comes on the heels of a similar attack in Kebbi State earlier in the week, where terrorists seized at least 25 students from a government-run school, heightening concerns over renewed assaults on educational institutions in the region.
