President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies to launch an urgent operation to rescue the 25 female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The gunmen, who struck in the early hours of Monday, fatally shot the school’s Vice Principal, Hassan Makuku, and injured a security guard, Ali Shehu, who sustained gunshot wounds to his right hand.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafi’u Kotarkoshi, said a coordinated manhunt for the perpetrators has commenced.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Tinubu condemned the attack in strong terms and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting citizens, especially schoolchildren.
According to Idris, the President has given “clear and decisive directives” to security agencies to locate and safely recover the abducted students, insisting that those responsible must be brought to justice.
He added that Nigeria is reinforcing security collaboration through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to curb cross-border terrorism and organized crime.
Idris urged residents to remain calm, assuring that security operatives are working around the clock to resolve the situation.
