President Bola Tinubu has ordered security agencies to track down and apprehend the terrorists responsible for the deadly attack on Kasuwan Daji market in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, where at least 30 people were killed.

The attack occurred on Saturday, January 3, 2026, when armed assailants stormed the market, killing dozens of traders and residents. Several people, including women and children, were abducted, while shops and foodstuffs were looted before the market was set ablaze.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President directed the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

Tinubu also ordered all relevant security agencies to intensify rescue operations to secure the immediate release of those abducted during the attack.

Condemning the assault, the President described the killings and abductions as a grave attack on innocent Nigerians, warning that the Federal Government would show no tolerance for such acts.

“These terrorists have tested the resolve of our country and its people. They must face the full consequences of their criminal actions. No matter who they are or what their intent is, they will be hunted down and brought to justice,” Tinubu said.

According to the statement, preliminary intelligence suggests the attackers may be terrorists fleeing military pressure in the North-West, following intensified operations and reported airstrikes around the Christmas period.

The President extended his condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the government and people of Niger State, assuring them of the Federal Government’s determination to restore peace and security in the affected communities.

He further directed security agencies to scale up surveillance and operations around vulnerable communities, particularly those located near forests believed to serve as hideouts for criminal elements.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to national security and unity, Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain calm and united, cautioning against divisive rhetoric.

“These times demand our humanity. We must stand together as one people to confront and defeat these criminals. United, we can reclaim peace and security for our communities,” the President said.
