Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has finally broken her silence on two major controversies that have followed her in recent years — her fallout with Davido and the persistent rumours linking her to fellow singer Wizkid. Speaking in a new interview on The Breakfast Club, the award-winning singer described the Davido incident as nothing more than a misunderstanding, while firmly dismissing claims of a romantic relationship with Wizkid.
The drama with Davido reportedly began in December 2023 after Tiwa posted an Instagram story featuring Sophia Momodu, the mother of Davido’s first child. According to Tiwa, her friendship with Sophia developed naturally because their children have been close since they were toddlers. She explained that she had no idea about the tension between Davido and Sophia, insisting that her intentions were purely innocent.
She revealed that trouble started when Davido saw her greet Sophia at an event and assumed she was taking sides. Tiwa explained that the singer later sent her insulting messages and warned her to “be careful in Lagos,” which she interpreted as a threat. Concerned for her safety, she reached out to members of Davido’s family before eventually filing a police petition. She made it clear, however, that her actions were not out of spite but simply a precautionary step to protect herself and her loved ones.
Despite how heated things became, Tiwa downplayed the issue and stressed that she holds no grudge against Davido. In her words, he is a joyful person who may not have intended the warning the way it sounded. She maintained that she would always put their children first and that there is no lingering hostility between them.
Tiwa also used the opportunity to address rumours about her and Wizkid, which have trailed her for years. She expressed her admiration and respect for the Starboy singer but stated clearly that there was never a romantic relationship between them. She went further to clarify that when she once mentioned an “embarrassing secret relationship” with a public figure, it had nothing to do with Wizkid.
According to Tiwa, that past relationship, which she chose not to name, left a damaging impact on her self-esteem. She admitted it chipped away at her confidence and even made it difficult for her to perform certain songs because of the painful memories attached to them. Looking back, she described the experience as embarrassing but also acknowledged that it shaped her music and brought authenticity to her expressions of love, heartbreak, and faith.
For Tiwa Savage, both the personal heartbreak and the public feud have contributed to her growth as a person and as an artist. While the moments were difficult, she believes they have allowed her to create music that truly reflects her reality, turning pain into powerful art.
