Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has sparked a debate among parents after advising against daily bathing of newborns, warning that excessive baths could damage their delicate skin.
In a video shared on her social media, Makinwa, who recently became a mother at 40, explained that babies are naturally clean and that the womb is a clean environment. She revealed that she does not bathe her own child every day and recommends using gentle wipes instead of frequent baths.
“Babies aren’t dirty; they’ve been in the womb for nine months, which is clean. They don’t need daily baths. Their skin is fragile, and wiping them is sufficient,” Makinwa said. She added that this approach has worked well for her and wanted to share it with other nursing mothers.
Her comments have provoked mixed reactions online, with some praising the advice while others questioned her experience in parenting and lack of formal nursing qualifications.
