Tony Elumelu, Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), has cancelled this year’s highly anticipated TOE All-White Party following the tragic deaths of six employees in the September fire at Afriland Towers, Lagos. The blaze at the Broad Street high-rise sent shockwaves through the business community, highlighting the devastating human toll of the incident.

Elumelu shared the decision on his Instagram story on Tuesday, explaining that he and his wife, Dr. Awele Elumelu, felt the moment called for solemnity rather than celebration. The couple intends to dedicate the period to remembering and honouring those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

“We’ve received countless messages about our annual TOE All-White Party scheduled for December 23. Your enthusiasm means a great deal to us. But following the recent fire incident that claimed precious lives, Awele and I have decided to cancel the party this year. This season will be devoted to remembering and honouring those we lost. They remain forever in our hearts,” Elumelu wrote.

The philanthropist confirmed that the All-White Party will return on December 23, 2026, thanking the public for their understanding and extending Christmas greetings to friends, supporters, and well-wishers.
