The United States government has cautioned Nigerian politicians and public officials that involvement in corruption could result in visa restrictions, regardless of their political status or influence at home.

In a circular issued by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria and shared on X, the American government emphasized that its anti-corruption measures apply to even the most prominent individuals.

The statement, shared with the hashtag #VisaWiseTravelSmart, read:
“Did You Know? Even high-profile individuals engaged in corruption can be barred from receiving #USVisas. FIGHTING CORRUPTION KNOWS NO BORDERS or limits on accountability.”

This warning comes amid fresh allegations by activist Omoyele Sowore, who accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of money laundering. The claims also involved his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzette Nyesom-Wike, and their children — Jordan, Joaquin, and Jazmyne.

Henry Omorere, a digital forensics investigator from Teesside University in the United Kingdom, has petitioned the Florida Attorney General, seeking updates on alleged financial crimes linked to Wike’s family.
