The United States has delivered a consignment of military supplies to Nigerian security agencies as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security operations across the country.
The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a post shared on X. According to AFRICOM, the supplies were handed over in Abuja and are aimed at supporting Nigeria’s current security operations.
“US forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM stated.
Nigeria has in recent months grappled with worsening insecurity, particularly in parts of the North, where kidnapping, banditry and terrorist attacks have continued to pose serious challenges. Hundreds of people have reportedly been abducted in separate incidents across several states.
The latest delivery comes against the backdrop of increased cooperation between both countries on counterterrorism and regional security. On Christmas Day, US forces carried out airstrikes on suspected terrorist enclaves in North-West Nigeria as part of efforts to degrade militant networks operating in the region.
Security analysts say the renewed military support underscores Washington’s commitment to assisting Nigeria in addressing its security challenges, while strengthening long-standing defence ties between both nations.
