The United States has contributed $5 million to UNICEF to support urgent humanitarian efforts in Nigeria’s North-West, where acute malnutrition among children remains a critical concern.
According to a statement from the U.S. Mission to Nigeria on Thursday, the funding will enable UNICEF to deliver lifesaving nutrition assistance to at least 70,000 children affected by severe malnutrition in the region.
The funds are earmarked for essential supplies, including ready-to-use therapeutic food, medicines, and other vital humanitarian materials.
“The State Department provided $5 million to UNICEF to deliver lifesaving nutrition support to at least 70,000 children with acute malnutrition in Northwest Nigeria,” the statement read. “These funds will be used by UNICEF to provide ready-to-use food, medicine, and other humanitarian supplies.
