Nigerian-American rapper Wale has opened up about his long-standing friendship with Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, revealing the pivotal role he played in introducing the singer to international audiences.
During a livestream with Nigerian comedian Carter Efe, Wale described Wizkid as his “boy” and recalled hosting him in Beverly Hills, California, for an entire summer while they collaborated on music.
“I have been following Nigerian music; there are so many Nigerian artists I enjoy listening to. Some I know personally, like Wizkid. We’ve been cool for almost 10 years now,” Wale said. “I remember taking him to his first BET Awards show. That is my boy. I once accommodated him in Beverly Hills for a whole summer. We were just writing music and made a lot of songs together like ‘Drop for Me.’”
The rapper’s revelation highlights the cross-continental connections that have helped propel Afrobeats stars like Wizkid onto the global stage.
