Popular Nigerian singer Zinoleesky has fueled speculation of a split with his mentor, Naira Marley, after posting a message on social media advocating for transparency and fairness in the music industry.
The post, shared on his Instagram story over the weekend, stressed the need for respect and fair treatment for artistes. “I’m standing up not just for myself but for every artist who has ever felt powerless or taken advantage of. We deserve better. We deserve transparency, fairness, and respect,” he wrote.
Zinoleesky’s remarks have sparked intense discussion among fans, many of whom recalled the late singer Mohbad’s previous allegations against Naira Marley and his associates regarding exploitation and mistreatment. Mohbad, who passed away two years ago, had repeatedly spoken out about these issues while signed to the same label.
Zinoleesky himself joined Marlian Music, the record label owned by Naira Marley, in December 2019. His recent statements are seen by some observers as a call for better working conditions and rights for artistes under the label and within Nigeria’s music industry at large.
