Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump to pay close attention to the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
Davido made the appeal in a message addressed directly to Trump, citing concerns over political tension and the possibility of violence or disruption of the electoral process.
The singer urged the US President to pay attention to developments in Osun as voters prepare to elect their governor.
According to Davido, the people of Osun should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully and without fear.
The intervention marks another escalation in Davido’s public engagement with the Osun election. The singer has previously commented on the contest and publicly criticised political developments involving the state.
His latest appeal comes amid heightened political activity and accusations between rival political camps ahead of Saturday’s poll.
Reports indicate that the major contenders in the election include incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and ADC candidate Najeem Salaam.
The election is scheduled for August 15, with security and the need for a peaceful electoral process remaining central issues in the final days of campaigning.
