The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi over a controversial comment in which he was allegedly heard directing supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party.
Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, has come under scrutiny following the emergence of a viral video in which he allegedly made the remarks during political activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The police invitation comes amid heightened concerns over political violence and inflammatory rhetoric ahead of the poll.
The command has reportedly asked the senator to appear for questioning over the statement.
The controversy escalated after the video circulated widely on social media, prompting calls for authorities to investigate the remarks.
Fadahunsi has subsequently clarified his position, saying his reference to “killing Accord” was about defeating the party politically through votes and not physically harming its members.
The clarification, however, has not stopped the police from examining the original statement and circumstances surrounding it.
The development comes against the backdrop of heightened security preparations for the Osun governorship election, with authorities warning political actors and supporters against actions capable of triggering violence.
The police have also announced restrictions on the involvement of non-state security groups in election security operations, as part of measures to ensure a peaceful poll.
