Former Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, has raised concerns over the slow performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
Adesiyan reportedly expressed frustration over delays associated with the accreditation process at his polling unit as voters waited to exercise their franchise.
The development comes as voters across Osun State participate in the governorship election, with the performance of BVAS emerging as one of the issues being monitored during the exercise.
Reports from parts of the state indicated that some voters experienced delays during accreditation, although voting was generally reported to have commenced across most polling units.
INEC said 3,556 of Osun’s 3,763 polling units had opened by 8:30 a.m., representing 94.5 per cent of polling units across the state.
The BVAS is being used to authenticate voters before they are allowed to cast their ballots, making its effective operation critical to the credibility and efficiency of the electoral process.
Adesiyan’s complaint adds to the concerns being raised by some voters and observers as the election progresses.
Electoral officials are expected to continue addressing technical or operational challenges that could prevent eligible voters from completing the accreditation process.
