Aisha Yesufu has said she will continue to support and campaign for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election, but will not accompany him around the country in the same manner she did during the 2023 election campaign.
The social activist explained that her approach to the next election would be different, with greater emphasis on organisational work rather than travelling extensively with Obi.
Yesufu was a prominent figure during Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign and was frequently seen participating in rallies and campaign activities in support of the Labour Party candidate.
However, as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 election, she has indicated that her role will take a different form.
Yesufu said she remains committed to supporting Obi when necessary, but does not intend to replicate the extensive travelling schedule of the previous campaign.
She explained that her focus would increasingly be on organising and supporting the wider political movement rather than being physically present with Obi at every campaign stop.
Her comments come as opposition figures and supporters of different political movements begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
Obi is expected to remain one of the major figures in discussions surrounding the opposition landscape, while political parties and emerging coalitions continue efforts to determine how best to challenge President Bola Tinubu.
Yesufu’s decision does not represent a withdrawal of her support for Obi. Rather, she has explained that she intends to contribute in a different capacity.
Reports on her comments indicate that she would still campaign with Obi where necessary, while placing greater emphasis on organisational responsibilities.
