Dr Deji Adeleke, elder brother of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and father of Afrobeats star Davido, has attributed his brother’s victory in the 2026 Osun governorship election to prayers rather than financial strength.
Deji Adeleke made the remarks while reflecting on the outcome of the election, which saw his younger brother secure re-election as governor of Osun State.
In a video shared following the election, Adeleke said the family’s faith and prayers played a major role throughout the political process.
He maintained that the victory should not be interpreted simply in terms of financial resources deployed during the campaign, stressing instead the importance of prayer and divine intervention.
The comments come after a highly competitive election in which Governor Ademola Adeleke, running on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The election attracted considerable attention because of the intense political mobilisation by both major camps and the involvement of prominent political figures.
Deji Adeleke, who has played a prominent role in his brother’s political career, expressed confidence in Ademola Adeleke’s chances even before the election.
He had previously spoken about his belief that the governor would emerge victorious, while describing the family’s private efforts and prayers during the campaign period.
Following the declaration of the result, Deji Adeleke again highlighted the role of faith in the family’s experience.
His comments have generated reactions online, particularly because of the significant financial and political resources that were deployed by competing parties during the election.
The Osun election ultimately ended with Adeleke securing another term in office, giving his administration another opportunity to pursue its development agenda across the state.
