President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the arrest of George Nwabueze following the reported discovery of an alleged fake government agency operating within the premises of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

The development reportedly followed an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) into the alleged operation.

Reports on the matter indicate that Tinubu also ordered the suspension of three permanent secretaries in connection with the discovery as authorities move to establish how the alleged organisation was able to operate from within a key federal government facility.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about administrative oversight within government offices and the possibility of unauthorised individuals or organisations exploiting government premises and structures.

The alleged operation is now expected to face scrutiny as investigators determine the identity and activities of the organisation involved, how it gained access to the OSGF premises and whether any public officials facilitated its activities.

Tinubu orders action

The President’s reported directive for the arrest of Nwabueze signals a move to establish individual responsibility for the alleged operation.

The suspension of three permanent secretaries also suggests that investigators are examining whether there were administrative failures or breaches of procedure that allowed the alleged fake agency to operate within the government complex.

The ICPC’s involvement places the matter within the broader anti-corruption and public-sector accountability efforts of the Federal Government.

Government offices typically operate under strict administrative procedures, particularly where access to official premises, government identities and public institutions is concerned.

The discovery therefore raises questions about how the alleged agency presented itself and whether government officials were aware of its activities.

Investigation continues

The details surrounding the alleged fake agency, including the nature of its activities and the circumstances under which it operated within the OSGF, are expected to become clearer as the investigation progresses.

For now, the reported arrest order and suspension of the permanent secretaries represent the immediate administrative response to the discovery.

The case also comes as the Tinubu administration continues to emphasise accountability and the need to strengthen controls across government institutions.

Editorial note: PoshReporters should describe the organisation as an “alleged fake agency” until investigators or a competent authority establish the facts conclusively.
